What is PDPA in Singapore?
With the implementation of the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (“PDPA”), companies should ensure that the following personal data is protected:
- Name
- National Residential Identity Card number
- Passport number
- Photograph or video image of an individual
- Mobile telephone number
- Personal email address
- Thumbprint
- Residential address
Organisations that do not comply with the PDPA in Singapore may be fined up to S$1 million. Once the Personal Data (Amendment ) Bill 2020 is passed, the penalty will increase to 10% of the organisation’s revenue.
